St. David's, PA (September 24, 2013) – The DeSales University volleyball team had #15 Eastern University on the ropes in the first set but couldn't close the door as the Eagles rallied for a 25-22 first set win and ultimately a 3-0 win in a Freedom Conference match on Tuesday evening.

DSU (9-9, 1-1 Freedom) started strong taking a 4-1 lead on the Eagles and extended its advantage to 11-7 forcing an Eastern timeout.  The Bulldogs continued to lead 19-18 before two straight Eastern points gave EU its first lead of the set, 20-19.  Back and forth action produced a tied at 22 before a DSU blocking error, an Eagle kill, and Eastern service ace finished off the set.

Eastern jumped out early in set #2 taking a 7-3 lead and fought off a rally in the middle of the third set to earn the three set sweep.

Freshman Lauren Hess led the Bulldogs with nine kills, while junior Julie Blessing returned to the lineup for her first match of the season and had six kills and hit .385.  Junior Amanda Wallitsch played well with 16 digs and freshman Lisa Walltisch had 10 digs.  Graduate student Justine McNulty finished with 19 assists and nine digs in the loss.

DSU is off this weekend before returning to action Wednesday, October 2nd when they host FDU-Florham in another Freedom Conference match beginning at 7:00 pm.
