Center Valley, PA (January 5, 2014) – Haverford College used a 16-4 run over the final 5:51 of the first-half extending a slim two-point lead into a 40-26 advantage at the break en route to a 69-56 win over the Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon in Billera Hall.
Seniors
Mike Coleman and
Kyle Hash led DeSales scoring 30 of the team's 56 points including 16 from Coleman in his first game back from an injured hand and 14 from Hash. Hash also added a team-high seven rebounds. Freshman
Kuity Slanger led the charge off the bench with seven points.
Haverford saw four players reach double digits including
Brett Cohen with a double-double stat line of 26 points and 11 rebounds,
Lucas Colombo also with a double-double line of 10 points and 10 rebounds,
Louis Cipriano with 11 points and five assists, and
Matt Sherman with 10 points.
Gibby Graves added six assists and five steals in the win.
DeSales started fast leading 10-5 and still led by two (16-14) eight minutes into the game when the Fords scored 10 straight points to lead 24-16. The Bulldogs answered with six straight points of their own before Haverford embarked on its half-ending 16-4 spurt that put the visitors up 40-26 at the break.
Haverford torched the first-half nets shooting 56.7 percent from the field and hitting four three-pointers. DeSales did hit 4-for-7 (57.1%) from outside the arc over the first 20 minutes.
DSU was never able to get any closer than 10 points in the second-half as Haverford led by as many as 22 points in the win.
HC scored 40 of its 69 points in the paint and committed just five turnovers as compared to 17 assists.
The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday when they travel down to Catholic University for another non-conference game beginning at 7:00 pm.
