Late Run Lifts Salisbury past DeSales, 72-61

Center Valley, PA (November 16, 2014) – Salisbury University finished the game on a 25-11 run over the final 5:57 of the game earning a 72-61 win over the DeSales University women's basketball team in the championship game of the Morgan Stanley/Holiday Inn Tip-off Tournament on Sunday afternoon in Billera Hall.

SU's Sarah Seipp earned MVP honors of the tournament finishing with 21 points and 11 rebounds and senior Anna Hackett added 17 points, including a perfect 10-for-10 from the foul line to lead the Sea Gulls.

Sophomore Morgan McCollian recorded her first double-double of the year with 15 points and 15 rebounds and freshman Leandra Sterner added a team-high 21 points as they each earned All-Tournament Team honors for the Bulldogs in the loss.

After Salisbury dominated play in the first-half holding DSU to just 14.3 percent shooting (5-for-35) in the opening half to lead 34-24 at the break DeSales turned up its defensive pressure to start the second-half enabling the Bulldogs to get back into the game.

DSU held SU to just six points over the first 11:28 of the second-half and took a 46-40 lead with 8:32 remaining on two free throws from senior Alex Suk.  Salisbury answered with seven straight points to take a 47-46 lead before two Bulldog free throws and a lay-up from Sterner put DSU back up three (50-47) with 5:57 to go.

The Sea Gull dominated from there using a 12-2 run to take a 59-52 lead and after the Bulldogs closed to within two points (59-57) on a three from junior Jen Napolitano at the 2:57 mark, SU finished the game on a 13-4 run to post the final margin.

DeSales shot much better in the second-half (14-for-35 – 40.0%) to finish the game shooting 27.1 percent for the game.  Salisbury also struggled from the field canning just 32.8 percent but was 6-for-18 from three-point land.

Junior Kelly Anthony pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds and Napolitano equaled her career-high with nine points in the loss.

DeSales returns to action on Thursday, November 20th when they host Gwynedd-Mercy College in a non-conference game beginning at 7:00 pm.
