Defense Carries Bulldogs past PSU-Wilkes Barre, 59-46

Center Valley, PA (November 19, 2014) – Juniors Cody Deal and Timothy Pandolfi combined for 33 points and the DeSales University defense held the Mountain Lions to just 35.3 percent shooting and 46 total points in a 59-46 win in non-conference action on Wednesday evening in Billera Hall.

Deal shot 6-for-11 from the field and pulled down a career-high nine boards, while Pandolfi, playing in just his second career game for DSU, made his first career start and poured in 14 points in relief of injured starter senior Michael Guldin.

The Mountain Lions were led by Denzel Mensah with 11 points, five assists, and three steals and Rashawn Reed who had nine points off the bench.

Neither team was sharp in the first-half as both teams shot under 35 percent for the half.  PSU-Wilkes Barre closed the half on a 12-6 run as Shakur Jackson hit a three with seven ticks left to tie the score at 23 entering the locker room.

The Bulldogs took control to start the second-half using a 16-3 run over the first 8:06 to take a 39-26 lead on a three-pointer from sophomore Brian Laird with 11:54 remaining.  Sophomore Kuity Slanger opened the half with a three, Deal had six straight points during the spurt, and freshman Connor Jones also added a triple during the run.

The Mountain Lions were never able to get any closer than nine points the rest of the way as DSU iced the game from the free throw line late.

DSU owned the glass out-rebounding PSU, 45-25.  The Bulldogs also attempted 28 more free throws than PSU-Wilkes Barre in the win.

DeSales returns to action on Friday when they take on Eastern Mennonite University in the opening round of the Messiah College Tournament beginning at 4:00 pm.
