Moravian Rallies Late in 70-66 Win over DeSales

Bethlehem, PA (November 25, 2014) – Freshman Leandra Sterner and sophomore Morgan McCollian combined for 39 of DSU's 66 points but Moravian College scored seven straight points late with the game tied at 62 to earn a 70-66 win in non-conference action on Tuesday evening in Johnston Hall.
 
Sterner finished with 20 points, 15 of which came in the first-half and also pulled down a team-high tying six rebounds.  McCollian shot 7-of-9 from the field and had 19 points in just 15 minutes of action off the bench.  Junior Kelly Anthony added seven points and junior Gabby Scott finished with five assists and no turnovers.
 
Moravian had four players reach double digits in the win including Alexis Wright and Alesha Marks with 17 points each, Emily MacDonnell with 12 points, and Taylor Freeman with 11 points.
 
With the game tied at 62 after a lay-up from McCollian with 2:06 left, MacDonnell hit a three from the corner and after consecutive misses from the Bulldogs Marcks hit an off-balance lay-up after being fouled and hit the free throw put Moravian up 68-62 with 1:05 left on the clock.
 
Baird missed a three on the other end and Wright hit 1-of-2 free throws to ice the win for the Greyhounds.
 
Moravian took control of the game mid-way thru the first-half opening up a 28-18 lead before the Bulldogs battled back to get within four at the half (36-32).
 
The Bulldogs then dominated the start of the second-half opening the final 20 minutes on an 18-5 run to take a 50-41 lead with 13:10 left to play.  McCollian led the run with seven points for DeSales.
 
MC chipped away at the lead tying the game at 56 before taking the lead with 2:34 left (62-60) setting up the final moments.
 
Moravian shot 50.0 percent from the field in the second-half and hit 6-of-12 from outside the arc.  The Bulldogs hit 39.7 percent from the field but hit just 8-of-16 from the charity stripe.
 
The Bulldogs break for the Thanksgiving holidays this weekend and will return to action on Wednesday, December 3rd when they open Freedom Conference play at Manhattanville College with tip set for 6:00 pm.
