Julie Blessing totaled a team-high 21 kills leading the DeSales University volleyball team to two wins on day one of the DeSales University Invitational in Billera Hall on Friday evening.
The Bulldogs (2-0 overall) defeated Albright College, 3-0 (25-9, 25-9, 25-6) in the first match of the afternoon and used a third-set comeback in the second match to top Rutgers-Camden, 3-0 (25-19, 25-11, 27-25). DSU trailed 24-20 in the third set vs. the Scarlet Raptors before rallying to earn the sweep.
In the win over Albright, senior
Chrissy Banos led the charge with a team-high 15 kills and six service aces. Freshman
Sienna Heist added nine kills, while Blessing and freshman
Logan Wieziolowski each had seven kills.
Sophomore
Lisa Wallitsch finished with 35 assists and 13 digs, tying her sister, senior
Amanda Wallitsch, for the team lead with 13 digs. Junior
Laura Greenberg added nine digs in the win over the Lions.
Blessing led the charge vs. Rutgers-Camden with 14 kills, while Wieziolowski added six kills and two blocks and Banos, Heist, and senior
Brooke Horrigan each had five kills. Horrigan added nine assists, L. Wallitsch finished with 26 assists and 11 digs, A. Wallitsch had 15 digs, and freshman
Bernadette Wood totaled 11 digs in the win.
DSU takes on Mary Washington (Noon) and Baruch College (2:00 pm) on day two of the tournament tomorrow.
