Julie Blessing had a match-high 19 kills and hit .415 in the second match of the day leading the Bulldogs to a split of their two matches on Saturday with a 3-1 win over Baruch after falling to Mary Washington, 3-0, earlier in the day at the DeSales University Invitational.
The Bulldogs take second place in the tournament finishing with a 3-1 record as UMW finishes 4-0. Sophomore
Lisa Wallitsch earned All-Tournament Team honors for the Bulldogs averaging 9.69 assists per set over the four matches.
In the opener on Saturday, DSU lost a hard-fought match to Mary Washington. UMW gutted out a 25-23 win in the first set and then ran of 14 of the last 15 points in the second set to win, 25-16, erasing a 15-11 deficit to the Bulldogs. The Eagles then cruised in the third set to win 25-13.
Freshman
Logan Wieziolowski led the Bulldogs with seven kills and two blocks and freshman
Sienna Heist had six kills. L. Wallitsch had 21 assists and three service aces and senior
Amanda Wallitsch finished with 16 digs.
In the second match, DSU cruised to a 25-18 and 25-21 win in the first two sets before Baruch rallied to take the fourth frame, 25-21. The Bulldogs trailed much of the fourth set before rallying late to earn a 25-21 win.
Blessing finished with 19 kills and just two errors for a .415 hitting percentage. Wieziolowski added 10 kills and four blocks, senior
Chrissy Banos had nine kills, four aces, and two blocks, and Heist finished with eight kills and two blocks.
L. Wallitsch dished out 44 assists, had three aces, nine digs, and two blocks, while A. Wallitsch led the defense with 22 digs. Freshman
Bernadette Wood finished with 14 digs and three service aces.
The Bulldogs return to action on Friday, September 5
th when they travel to the Buttermaker Tournament at Muhlenberg College on Friday and Saturday.
