Box Score Center Valley, PA (September 10, 2014) – The DeSales University men's soccer team missed several point blank chances and had one header carom off the crossbar late in the second-half en route to a 2-0 loss to Cabrini College in a non-conference game on Wednesday afternoon.
Sophomore
A.J. Bishop scored both goals for Cabrini with the first coming in the 20th minute on an assist from senior
Rey Jimenez, and again in the 58th minute from an assist from sophomore
Channing Shiffert. Both goals were near carbon copies of each other with Bishop taking in a pass in the box and side-stepping a diving keeper for a shot into an open net.
The Bulldogs had several chances to score with the first good one coming late in the first-half when sophomore
Alex Peek was 1-v-1 with the goalie on the right post and saw his shot saved to the near post.
In the second-half, sophomore
Liam Hulse had a wide open lane in the center of the box off a rebound and the Cavalier goalie out of position but his shot sailed wide left. A few minutes later senior
Brandon Moninghoff took a beautiful lob pass and fired a header to the opposite post but it hit the crossbar and was cleared by the defense.
Overall, Cabrini out-shot DeSales, 22-12, but the Bulldogs had nine shots on goal as opposed to just eight for the Cavs. Senior goalkeeper
Colin Sulpizio made six saves in the loss.
The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday when they travel to Immaculata University for a non-conference game beginning at 2:30 pm.
