Danni Engwall personally removed the monkey from the DeSales University women's soccer team back scoring her first career goal and the first goal of the season for the Bulldogs leading to a 1-0 win over Cairn University on Wednesday afternoon.
Fellow freshman
Isabel McPeak fired a shot in the 41
st minute that was blocked by a Highlander defender and bounced right to Engwall who took a touch and blasted a shot into the back of the net at 40:15 giving DSU a 1-0 lead and ultimately the win.
After DSU held a 10-6 advantage in shots at the half, the Bulldogs dominated the second-half out-scoring CU, 11-0. DeSales had several other chances to score most notably early in the first half when freshman
Angelica Bertola hit the post square in the 15
th minute and the Cairn defense was able to clear the ball and then late in the second-half when Bertola had a 1-v-1 with the goal on the left post but her shot was hit right at the Highlander goalie who made a terrific save to preserve the one goal game.
Senior
Michelle Churchman made one save in the win to earn her second shutout of the season.
The Bulldogs will return to action on Saturday, September 13
th when they travel to Haverford College for a non-conference game beginning at 1:00 pm.
