DSU Falls Just Short at Juniata, 2-1

Huntingdon Valley, PA (September 24, 2014) – A late penalty stroke goal by junior Alessandra Farnesi pulled DSU within one goal but the Bulldogs were unable to capitalize on a penalty corner as time ran out falling to Juniata College, 2-1, in a non-conference game on Wednesday evening.

Juniata struck first at 29:55 as Brittany Meier scored on a penalty stroke and the 1-0 lead stood into the 55th minute late in the second-half when Allison Groft scored a very important insurance goal for the Eagles.

Farnesi pulled DSU within one with 1:28 left in the game, scoring her third career goal on her first career penalty stroke attempt.  The Bulldogs were able to draw a corner as time ran out on regulation but were unable to capitalize on the corner as the game ended.

Juniata out-shot DeSales, 16-5, as junior Becky Rasmuson made nine saves in the loss.

The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday when they host Delaware Valley College in the first Freedom Conference game of the season beginning at Noon on homecoming.
