Volleyball Takes Second at Worthington Classic at Gallaudet

Washington, DC (September 27, 2014) – The DeSales University volleyball split two more matches on Saturday afternoon defeating Olivet College, 3-1 (25-22, 19-25, 25-22, 25-15), before falling to #1 Hope College, 3-0 (11-25, 19-25, 15-25), to take home second place at the Worthington Classic hosted by Gallaudet University.
 
In the first match of the day, the Bulldogs defeated Olivet in four sets to move into the championship match after there was a three-way tie in their pool that the DeSales won via tiebreaker and a head-to-head win over Gallaudet.
 
In the win, senior Julie Blessing led the way with 19 kills and a .471 hitting percentage, while senior Brooke Horrigan, freshman Logan Wieziolowski, and freshman Sienna Heist all had nine kills in the victory.  Blessing, Heist, and Wieziolowski each had two blocks, while Horrigan registered three blocks.
 
Sophomore Lisa Wallitsch finished with 41 assists, 10 digs, and two blocks, senior Amanda Wallitsch added 18 digs, and freshman Bernadette Wood and junior Lizzi Levis totaled 13 and 12 digs in the win.
 
DSU advanced to the title match to face the #1 ranked team in the country, undefeated Hope College, and fell to Hope, 3-0.  Blessing had a team-high seven kills and three blocks and Horrigan added four kills in the loss.  L. Wallitsch dished out 20 assists and A. Wallitsch was the lone player with double digit digs, registering 10.
 
L. Wallitsch was the lone Bulldog named to the All-Tournament Team.
 
The Bulldogs return to action when they host Eastern University in a Freedom Conference match beginning at 7:00 pm in Billera Hall on Wednesday, October 1st.
