Field Hockey Records Second Straight Shutout in 5-0 Win over Elmira

Sophomore Nicola McDermott scored twice in DSU's 5-0 win over Elmira College on Sunday.

Center Valley, PA (September 7, 2014) – Junior Jesse Marshall had a goal and two assists and sophomore Nicola McDermott scored two goals leading the DeSales University field hockey team to its second straight shutout win, 5-0, over Elmira College in a non-conference game on Sunday afternoon.
 
The Bulldogs out-shot Elmira, 28-6, for the game and had a 10-4 edge in penalty corners.  Junior Becky Rasmuson made two saves to earn her third career shutout and the second this season.
 
Marshall started the scoring at 4:04 tapping in a shot from senior Alyssa Malatesta.  Malatesta then made it a 2-0 game just 6:04 later, this time on assist from Marshall and the lead was pushed to three at 19:15 when freshman Tess Luzi scored her first career goal on an assist from Marshall.
 
McDermott got into the scoring act in the second half scoring twice in a span of 30 seconds early in the half to give DSU a 5-0 lead.  Sophomore Alexa Beaumont earned an assist on McDermott's second tally.
 
The Bulldogs will return to action on Wednesday, September 10th when they travel to William Paterson University for another non-conference game beginning at 7:00 pm.
