Dominate Second-Half Lifts Bulldogs past Ursinus, 62-51

Collegeville, PA (January 3, 2015) – The DeSales University women's basketball team erased a 14-point second-half deficit with a 28-5 run to end the game dominating the second-half in a 62-51 win over Ursinus College in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at Helfferich Hall.

Sophomore Morgan McCollian led the Bulldogs (8-4) with a game-high 21 points and eight rebounds in the win and freshman Kaitlin Kelly had her second straight strong game scoring 14 points, 11 during the game-clinching run, off the bench.  Sophomore Nikki Callahan added a career-high seven points and junior Kelly Anthony also had seven points in the win.

Ursinus was led by Jessica Porada with 12 points and 13 rebounds and Alyssa Polimeni with 12 points in the loss.

DSU trailed the Bears (3-7) by five at the half (33-28) before UC used a 11-2 run over the first 4:11 of the half to take a 44-30 lead with 15:49 left to play.

It was all Bulldogs from that point as four points each from both McCollian and Anthony quickly cut the deficit down to six points with 13:36 left to play.

Both teams went scoreless over the next 2:49 before a three from Kelly made it a three-point game and DSU eventually took a 48-46 lead at the 6:32 mark on a lay-up from McCollian.  Ursinus tied it at 48 before an 11-1 run clinched it for the Bulldogs led by five more points from Kelly.

DSU shot 43.1 percent from the field for the game but hit just 52.0 percent (13-for-25) from the free throw line.  The Bulldogs held the Bears to just 30.6 percent shooting, 22.6 percent in the second-half en route to the win.  DeSales also controlled the glass, 45-38, and each team committed 15 turnovers.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Monday when they host Baruch College in a non-conference game beginning at 6:00 pm.
