Center Valley, PA (October 24, 2015) – The DeSales University field hockey team battled MAC Freedom leader FDU-Florham but came up short falling to the Devils, 2-0, on senior day in the first official game played on the new stadium turf field on Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs (3-14, 0-6 MAC Freedom) nearly took a 1-0 lead early in the first-half when the Devil keeper misplayed a long ball in the circle but a shot from sophomore
Tess Luzi went wide keeping the game scoreless.
In the 17th minute FDU-Florham (12-5, 5-1 MAC Freedom) broke the tie as
Erin O'Connell got control of a loose ball on a clear attempt by the Bulldog defense and beat the keeper for a 1-0 lead that stood into the half.
Just 56 seconds into the second half the Devils got their insurance goal as
Alicia Grotyohann scored off a nice centering pass from
Alicia Theoret.
Freshman
Savanna Lacek made seven stops for the Bulldogs giving her 155 for the season breaking the single-season record previously held by
Victoria DelToro with 152 in 2011.
The Bulldogs will wrap up their season on Tuesday when they host King's College in a MAC Freedom game beginning at 3:30 pm.
