Bulldogs Fall Short at Delaware Valley, 5-3

Doylestown, PA (October 9, 2015) – The DeSales University field hockey team continued its strong play offensively but dropped a high powered offensive affair at Delaware Valley University on Friday evening, 5-3, in MAC Freedom action.

DelVal (6-6, 2-1 MAC Freedom) took a 2-0 lead early scoring twice in the first 12 minutes of the game before the Bulldogs (3-10, 0-3 MAC Freedom) cut the lead in half at 16:35 on a goal from freshman Chelsea DeFrancisco off a corner and assisted by sophomore Kelly Meade.

Just minutes later DeFrancisco had a chance to tie the game at two on a penalty stroke but her shot caromed off the post and DVU added another tally in the 29th minute for a 3-1 halftime lead.

DeSales got within one goal 7:15 into the second half when junior Alexa Beaumont scored taking a pass from senior Jesse Marshall creating a breakaway with the Aggie goalkeeper as Beaumont dribbled around her and scored into the open goal.

The Aggies had the answer scoring twice in the next five minutes to take a 5-2 lead and DSU was only able to get one goal back in the 65th minute as DeFrancisco scored her second of the game off an assist from senior Meryah Harding to provide the final tally.

Delaware Valley had a 14-10 edge in shots and a 15-7 advantage in penalty corners.  Freshman Savanna Lacek made four saves for the Bulldogs.

DeSales returns to action on Tuesday, October 13th when they host Stockton University in a non-conference game beginning at 4:00 pm.
