Second-Half Run Leads Men’s Hoops past Moravian, 79-66

Center Valley, PA (November 24, 2015) – A 17-2 second-half run turned a three-point deficit into a 12-point lead as the DeSales University men's basketball team defeated local rival Moravian College, 79-66, in non-conference action on Tuesday evening in Billera Hall.

Four players reached double digits in the win including sophomore Brandon Bridy with his first career double-double totaling 15 points and 11 rebounds in the win.  Junior Brian Laird came off the bench to score 17 points and senior Cody Deal and sophomore Aaron Burton each had 14 points in the win.

Moravian was led by Oneil Holder with 23 points and Brandon McGuire added 10 points in the loss for the Greyhounds (1-3).

The first-half was a defensive battle for both teams as the Bulldogs (3-2) defense held Moravian to 32.4 percent shooting and DSU hit just 38.5 percent of its shot attempts in the opening half.  DeSales kept Moravian in the game at the free throw line hitting just 6-of-20 from the charity stripe as Moravian closed the half on a 7-2 run to take a 30-27 lead.

The game remained a defensive struggle thru the first 10 minutes and after a three from freshman Jimmy Murray gave MC a 50-47 lead at 10:23 the Bulldogs took over.

DSU methodically started a 17-2 run over the next 4:28 turning a three-point deficit into a 12-point lead as five different players scored during the spurt.

Laird opened the run with a free throw and a quick steal and lay-up off the second missed free throw.  After a few empty possessions from both teams freshman Luke Connaghan hit two freebies giving DSU the lead for good and after leading by three (54-51) with 8:11 to go Bridy and Deal hit back-to-back three-pointers highlighting the run before Burton scored the final four points of the spurt to make it 64-52 with 5:45 to go.

Moravian was never able to get any closer than seven points the rest of the way as the Bulldogs shot much better in the second-half hitting 54.2 percent from the field, and after struggling from the free throw line over the first twenty minutes, DSU was terrific from the line in the second-half hitting 22-of-27 (81.5%) to ice the win.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Wednesday, December 2nd when they open up MAC Freedom play hosting Manhattanville College in Billera Hall at 8:00 pm.
