Center Valley, PA (November 24, 2015) – Moravian College shot 57.1 percent in the second-half, scoring 54 second-half points and erasing a 13-point halftime deficit in an 81-74 win over the DeSales University women's basketball team on Tuesday night in Billera Hall.
The start of the game was a defensive battle that saw Moravian (5-1) take an 8-2 lead before the Bulldogs (2-2) took control. Trailing 11-5 with 2:25 to go in the first quarter, DSU finished the quarter on a 9-2 run to take a 14-13 lead that in part to two three's from senior
Jen Napolitano.
The second quarter was all DeSales as the Bulldogs outscored Moravian, 26-14, opening up a 16-point lead on a lay-up from junior
Nicole Umbenhauer with 11 seconds left before the Greyhounds'
Camille McPherson hit a three-pointer as the halftime buzzer sounded to post the 40-27 halftime margin.
After Moravian shot just 30.0 percent from the field in the opening half, the Greyhounds could not miss in the third quarter. MC scored 32 points and quickly erased the halftime deficit with a 22-7 run over the first 6:19 of the quarter.
Two free throws with 0.8 seconds by junior
Morgan McCollian left made it a 59-58 game, in favor of Moravian, as the game moved to the fourth quarter.
The game went back and forth in the fourth quarter and after a lay-up from McCollian at the 4:10 mark Moravian led 69-67 but the Bulldogs went cold from there missing there next six shots as the Greyhounds slowly extended their lead to eight points (75-67) on six straight free throws and the Bulldogs were unable to recover.
McCollian led DSU with 22 points and 11 rebounds for her second double-double of the season and she added five assists and three blocks in the loss. Napolitano continued her hot shooting scoring 14 points off the bench and sophomore
Katilin Kelly had another strong game with 13 points off the pine.
Freshman
Morgan Birmelin finished with nine points, eight rebounds, and four steals and junior
Nikki Callahan had six assists for DeSales.
Moravian was led by senior
Alexis Wright with 12 points and 18 rebounds to go along with three assists, three steals, and five blocks. McPherson added 19 points and
Morgan Calabrese was big in the third quarter scoring 12 points for the game.
The Bulldogs are off for the Thanksgiving holiday and will return to action on Wednesday, December 2
nd when they host Manhattanville College in the MAC Freedom opener beginning at 6:00 pm.
