Hoboken, NJ (December 9, 2015) – The DeSales University women's basketball team shot just 29.7 percent from the field falling at Stevens Institute of Technology, 64-53, in a non-conference game on Wednesday evening.
Junior
Morgan McCollian led the Bulldogs (4-3) with 16 points and nine rebounds in the loss and freshman
Leandra Sterner added 10 points as the only two players in double digits.
Kaitlyn Astel scored a game-high 27 points to lead the Ducks (4-2).
Erica Guketlov totaled 13 points and
Megan Brown finished with 10 points and 12 rebounds in the win.
DSU trailed early but used a 12-4 run mid-way thru the second quarter to tie the game at 20 on a three from sophomore
Kaitlin Kelly in the corner.
Stevens Tech answered the run out-scoring the Bulldogs 15-4 over the final 4:12 of the first-half to take a 35-24 lead into the locker rooms.
The deficit never dipped below double digits in the third quarter but a lay-up from McCollian and a three from Sterner to open the fourth quarter pulled the Bulldogs within five with 9:14 left to play.
After trading baskets, consecutive layups from McCollian and Sterner pulled DeSales within three points (48-45) with 7:46 left on the clock. The Ducks answered with four straight points and the Bulldogs never got any closer than five points the rest of the way as Stevens Tech re-built the lead to 10 points (59-49) with 2:26 to go before posting the final margin.
Stevens enjoyed a 49-40 advantage on the glass and shot 37.5 percent from the field for the game.

DSU returns to action on Saturday when they return home to host local rival Muhlenberg College beginning at 1:00 pm.
