Men’s Lax Never Trails in 8-7 Win at Scranton

Scranton, PA (February 25, 2015) – Freshman Joe Neggia debuted his collegiate career with three goals and an assist leading the DeSales University men's lacrosse team past the University of Scranton, 8-7, in the season opener for the Bulldogs on Wednesday afternoon.

DeSales (1-0 overall) never trailed in the game opening up a 4-0 lead with a goal from senior Ryan Loughlin 51 seconds into the second quarter.  After the two teams traded goals to open up the third quarter, DSU scored three straight markers to take an 8-3 lead with 9:09 left to play.

Scranton (0-2 overall) pulled to within 8-5 with 5:09 on the clock and got goals within 46 seconds of each other to trail by just one (8-7) with 46 ticks left.  UofS won the ensuing face-off but senior Tim Barry caused a turnover, picked up the ground ball, and the Bulldogs clear attempt was good as the clock expired on the Royals.

The win is the first-ever for DeSales over Scranton in 13 career meetings between the two schools.  It was the first meeting since the 2011 season today.

Sophomore Justin Wilson and senior Lance Bracale each had two goals.  Freshman Josh Harman dished out two assists and Loughlin and freshman Tommy Friedman also had assists in the win.  Junior Matt Warnken made 11 saves in between the pipes.  Senior Dylan Baxter and sophomore Tyle Davis each had a team-high four ground balls and Barry led the charge with three caused turnovers on defense.

The Bulldogs return to action when they travel down to Greensboro College on Saturday as part of a three-game trip that finishes with two games in Florida over spring break.
