Doylestown, PA (February 7, 2015) – Sophomore
Megan Baird notched her first career double-double with a career-high 23 points and a career-high 10 rebounds in a 71-64 win over Delaware Valley College on Saturday afternoon.
Baird hit three 3's and added four assists for the Bulldogs (12-9, 6-4 Freedom) in the win. Sophomore
Morgan McCollian totaled 11 points and junior
Kelly Anthony finished with 10 points and eight rebounds as all nine Bulldogs who played reached the scoring column. Senior
Alex Suk led the bench with seven points and boards.
Brenna Coll also recorded a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds,
Eireann Anastasi totaled 12 points and
Brittany Wood finished with 11 points in the loss for the Aggies (10-11, 5-5 Freedom).
After one tie and six lead changes over the first seven minutes a Baird three gave DSU a 12-10 lead and the Bulldogs never trailed the rest of the way. It was a three-point game (23-20) with 8:09 left in the opening half when the Bulldogs used a 9-0 run with Baird scoring the final seven points of the run giving DeSales a 32-20 lead and DSU went into the locker room holding a 38-28 advantage
DSU dominated the glass in the first-half, doubling up the Aggies, 26-13, and had a 14-0 advantage in second-chance points.
It was a slow start to the second-half for both teams offensively but after a three from freshman
Kaitlin Kelly DeSales led by 14 (44-30) with 15:06 to go.
DVC got within nine points (47-38) with just over 10 minutes left but DeSales countered with an 8-0 run including a three from senior
Mikelyn Mackavage and four points from Anthony to take a 55-38 lead with 6:57 remaining.
DSU continued to lead by 17 with 4:56 to go when the Aggies made a run. DelVal scored nine straight points to cut the deficit down to eight (60-52) with 3:09 left but two free throws from junior
Nikki Callahan and a sweet reverse lay-up from Baird pushed the lead back to double digits (64-54) with 2:13 on the clock and DeSales clinched the win from the line hitting 7-of-12 over the final 65 seconds.
DeSales finished the game shooting 38.5 percent from the field and canned 7-of-17 three's. DSU also did an outstanding job at the free throw line hitting 70.6 percent (24-for-34). The Bulldogs dominated the glass out-rebounding DVC, 46-35, and held the Aggies to just 35.0 percent shooting.
The Bulldogs return home on Wednesday, February 11
th when they host Wilkes University with tip set for 6:00 pm.
