Hot Shooting Arcadia Ends Men’s Hoops Season

Center Valley, PA (March 4, 2015) – Arcadia University shot 57.6 percent from the field and hit 12 three-pointers en route to an 89-71 win over the DeSales University men's basketball team in the quarterfinals of the ECAC South Region men's basketball tournament.
 
The loss ends the Bulldogs season with a 17-10 overall record, while Arcadia advances to the semifinals to take on weekend host Bethany College on Saturday.
 
Sophomore Brian Laird led the Bulldogs with 20 points, 17 of which came in the first-half.  Freshman Aaron Burton and sophomore Ryan Callahan each had 12 points and junior Cody Deal finished with 11 points in the loss.
 
Arcadia saw five players reach double digits including Joe Brown with 23 points and 10 rebounds.  Travis Saltus added 14 points, Jose Figueroa totaled 13 points, John Landro tossed in 12 points, and Torrell Candelaria finished with 11 points to lead the Knights (15-12).
 
The first-half was an offensive clinic by both teams as the two squads combined for 92 points as AU held a 49-43 lead at the break.  The half featured 10 ties and 11 lead changes before an 8-2 run late in the half allowed Arcadia to take an eight-point lead before settling for the six-point halftime margin.
 
AU shot 64.3 percent from the field and hit 9-of-13 from outside the arc, while DeSales canned 66.7 percent of its shot attempts and hit 6-of-9 from three-point land as the two teams combined for 15 3's over the first twenty minutes.
 
The Bulldogs cooled off the in the second-half, hitting just 37.9 percent, while the Knights shot 51.6 percent.
 
It was a three-point game (55-52) at the 15:12 mark when Arcadia used an 8-0 run to take its first double digit lead of the night (63-52) and the Bulldogs never got any closer than eight points the rest of the way.
 
DSU's season comes to a close with its 14th straight season of winning at least 15 games.  The Bulldogs have won 20+ games in nine of the last 14 seasons.
