Reichard Scores Twice as Bulldogs Dominate Griffins, 5-0

Center Valley, PA (September 16, 2015) – Freshman Zach Reichard scored twice and fellow freshman Michael Kirby added a goal and two assists as the DeSales University men's soccer team dominated Gwynedd-Mercy University, 5-0, in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon.

The game was scoreless into the 29th minute when DSU (3-3) exploded scoring three goals in the span of 1:52 to take a 3-0 lead.

Reichard had the first as the Bulldogs were peppering the Griffin net with three straight shots that were all saved as the ball kicked out to the right sideline.  Freshman Max Cortina was there and served in a centering pass that Reichard volleyed inside the far post for the game's first goal.

The second goal came just 1:07 later when freshman Alex DiRienzo took a perfect pass over the top of the defense from Kirby and fired a shot into the net for his first career goal.  Just 37 seconds later Reichard drew a foul in the box as a penalty kick was awarded and Kirby deposited the shot into the net finalizing the three-goal barrage.

Reichard added his second tally of the game in the 54th minute taking a centering pass from Kirby as they each recorded their fourth points of the afternoon and junior Mike Masullo put the exclamation point taking a loose ball off a midfielder's foot and racing past the Griffin defense for a 1-v-1 with the goalkeeper, beating him to the right for his first career goal.

Junior Ryan O'Neill made four saves and sophomore Anthony D'Angelo had two saves to share the shutout in goal.  DSU out-shot GMC (1-5), 24-11 for the game and had a 11-8 edge in corner kicks.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Kean University for another non-conference battle beginning at 1:00 pm.
