Dominate Second-Half Leads DSU past FDU, 84-61

Madison, NJ (January 16, 2016) – Junior Ryan Callahan recorded his first career double-double with 21 points and a career-high 12 rebounds leading the DeSales University men's basketball team over FDU-Florham, 84-61, in MAC Freedom action on Saturday afternoon
 
Callahan finished 8-for-9 from the field and was one point shy of tying his career-high in points.  Sophomore Brandon Bridy totaled 14 points and a team-high five assists, sophomore Connor Jones came off the bench to score 12 points, and sophomore Aaron Burton finished with 10 points in the win.
 
Donte Ali led the Devils () with 21 points and 12 rebounds to equal Callahan's stat line.  J. Moran finished with 14 points off the bench and D. Leohner had 13 points to round out FDU's scoring leaders.
 
The first-half was a half of runs as FDU used an 11-1 run mid-way thru the half to take a 27-21 lead but the Bulldogs responded with a 9-2 half-ending run to take a 30-29 lead into the locker room.
 
The second-half was all DeSales as the Bulldogs dominated.  The two teams traded baskets over the first five and a half minutes before DSU used a 12-4 run to begin to pull away taking a 51-41 lead on a short jumper from Callahan at the 10:41 mark.
 
Leading by eight (54-46) the Bulldogs put the game away using a 13-6 spurt taking a 67-52 lead on a lay-in from freshman Luke Connaghan with 5:56 to go and the Bulldogs cruised from there with the lead peaking at the final 84-61 margin.
 
After shooting just 33.3 percent in the first-half the Bulldogs torched the second-half nets hitting on 61.1 percent of its shot attempts.  DSU also dominated the paint out-scoring the Devils, 46-28, in the lane and enjoyed a 54-34 advantage on the glass.
 
Callahan earns A.B.E. Doors and Windows Player of the Game honors recording his first career double-double.
 
The Bulldogs are back in action on Wednesday when they host Wilkes University in a MAC Freedom game beginning at 8:00 pm in Billera Hall.
