Deal Scores 1,000th Point as Bulldogs Roll Past Alvernia, 79-52

Center Valley, PA (January 3, 2016) – Senior Cody Deal scored his 1,000th career point and sophomore Connor Jones scored a career-high 19 points leading the DeSales University men's basketball team past Alvernia University, 79-52, in the consolation game of the Al Senavitis Memorial Tournament on Sunday evening in Billera Hall.

Jones reached double figures for the first time in his career with his previous high eight points early in his freshman season.  He shot 7-for-9 from the field and also pulled down a career-best eight rebounds.  Deal finished with 10 points to become the 26th player in team history to record 1,000 career points and junior Brian Laird added 13 points in the win as 12 different players scored for DeSales (8-4).  Junior Kuity Slanger was the lone Bulldog named to the All-Tournament Team.

Marquis Marshall led Alvernia (5-7) with 20 points, earning All-Tournament Team honors and Alex Shippen added 14 points in the loss.

DSU broke this game open at the end of the first-half finishing the opening twenty minutes on a 20-6 run to take a 44-25 lead into the locker rooms.  Jones keyed the run scoring nine straight points following a Laird three to start the run.

The Bulldog spurt continued into the second-half as DeSales scored the first 11 points of the half, including five from Deal as the lead grew to its largest (30 points) with 15:27 left to play and DSU cruised from there.

DSU shot 52.6 percent from the field and hit 6-of-12 from outside the arc in the win.  Alvernia hit just 30.9 percent from the field in the game and converted just 22.6 percent in the second-half.  DeSales held a 21-2 advantage in points off turnovers and got 46 points from its bench.

Jones earns A.B.E. Doors and Windows Player of the Game honors.

Berkeley College (NY) defeated Stockton University, 83-76, in the championship game.  The Knights' Massiah Merritt had a game-high 27 points to earn All-Tournament Team honors and Keenan Langston was named the Tournament MVP with 12 points and five assists.  Armin Cane and Maurice Hart each All-Tournament Team honors for the Ospreys.

The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Arcadia University for a non-conference game beginning at 8:00 pm.
