Angelica Bertola tallied two goals and an assist leading the DeSales University women's soccer team past Manhattanville College, 4-0, to stay unbeaten in MAC Freedom play on Wednesday afternoon.
Senior
Jess Wetherhold got the scoring started, banging home a free kick from just outside the box inside the far post. It was Wetherhold fourth goal of the season and came 30:17 into the game.
Bertola gave DSU (7-6, 3-0 MAC Freedom) a 2-0 lead in the 37th minute taking a pass thru the Valiant (3-8-1, 0-3 MAC Freedom) defense, deeking the charging goalkeeper, and recording her 12th marker of the season in the open net. It was Wetherhold's 10th assist increasing her school-record season total.
Junior
Danni Engwall got on the board 3:16 into the second-half as she knocked a Bertola centering pass off the near post and into the net for her fourth goal of the season and Bertola put the exclamation point on the win, working a give-and-go with Engwall in the 54th minute.
Sophomore
Haley Jacobs and junior
Shannon Pennella each made one save to combine on the shared shutout. DSU out-shot MVC, 22-3, and each team had two corner kicks.
The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday when they travel to Delaware Valley University for another MAC Freedom game beginning at 5:00 pm.
