Women's Soccer Falls to Eastern, 3-2, in OT

Center Valley, PA (October 29, 2016) - The DeSales University women's soccer team dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to Eastern University in MAC Freedom action on the final regular season game of the season on Saturday afternoon.

Despite the loss the Bulldogs (8-9, 4-3 MAC Freedom) will be the #3 seed in this week's MAC Freedom postseason tournament and will travel to #2 seed Wilkes University in a rematch of last season's MAC Freedom title game at 7:00 pm on Wednesday evening.

DSU had leads of 1-0 and 2-1 on Saturday but were unable to hold them in the loss.

Junior Angelica Bertola gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 cushion at 16:34 when she took a pass from senior Jess Wetherhold that created a 1-v-1 with the keeper and fired a shot over a charging goalkeeper.  It was Bertola's 15 tally of the season and Wetherhold's school-record 11th assist.

Eastern (8-11, 3-4 MAC Freedom) tied the score in the 29th minute when Alondra Cervantes scored from just inside the box with a shot inside the far post but DeSales responded as junior Gabby Lucchese played a beautiful pass over the top to a streaking Bertola who again beat a charging Eagle keeper at 40:39 for her 16th marker of the year.

The Bulldogs continued to lead throughout the entire second-half until the 81st minute when EU's Emily Cole let go on a shot from about 25-30 yards out that caught the DSU keeper off her line and just went over her head for the tying goal at 80:28.

Lucchese nearly won the game a few minutes later as she broke free on the left side but her shot was just saved by a sprawling Eagle keeper with her leg as the game went into overtime.

Just 1:04 into the overtime period a centering pass was played into the box where Cole headed it out to the edge of the box and Cervantes was unmarked, took a touch, and fired a shot past a diving Bulldog keeper for the game-winner.

Eastern finished the game with an 18-13 edge in shots, while DeSales earned the only two corner kicks of the game in the loss.

Senior Emily Hoats made three saves in between the pipes.
