Big Third Quarter Leads Women's Hoops Win over Immaculata, 84-59

Immaculata, PA (November 15, 2016) - Senior Morgan McCollian scored 11 points, including the 1,000th of her career, and the DeSales University women's basketball team out-scored Immaculata, 31-8, in the third quarter en route to an 84-59 win in the season opener for both teams on Tuesday evening.

McCollian gave DSU (1-0) an early 7-2 lead with four points to become the 22nd player in team historey to score 1,000 career points as the Bulldogs enjoyed a 19-12 advantage after one quarter of play.  It was back-and-forth in the second quarter as IU (0-1) pulled to within one point early before DeSales pushed the lead back up to 10 points before holding an eight point cushion at the break.

The third quarter was all Bulldogs as they scored 18 points off turnovers and finished the quarter on a 16-0 run pushing the lead to 31 points (71-40).  McCollian led the final charge with five of the final 16 points and DSU cruised in the fourth quarter.

Senior Megan Baird totaled a team0high 14 points off the bench, hitting two 3's, while McCollian finished with 11 in just 14 minutes of action.  Sophomore Leandra Sterner also had double digits with 13 points, while senior Nicole Umbenhauer and junior Kaitlin Kelly each had nine points.  Senior Nikki Callahan also played well with seven points, four rebounds, four assists, and five steals in the win.

DSU forced 35 Mighty Mac turnovers leading to 42 points, while committing just 15 turnovers of its own.  The Bulldog bench also out-scored the IU bench, 42-9, for the game.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Saturday when they host Haverford College in the opening game of the Morgan Stanley (Easton Office) Tip-off Tournament beginning at 2:00 pm.
