Volleyball vs. Eastern for Sixth Straight Year Saturday in MAC Freedom Title Match

Center Valley, PA (November 4, 2016) – For the sixth straight season the DeSales University volleyball team will travel to Eastern University looking to upset the nationally ranked Eagles in the MAC Freedom Championship match with start time set for 2:00 pm.
 
The Bulldogs earned the second seed with a 6-1 mark in the MAC Freedom and enter Saturday's match with a 23-12 overall record, while the Eagles garnered the top spot with a perfect 7-0 mark in conference play and own a 28-5 overall mark entering Saturday's tilt.
 
Match time is set for 2:00 pm and admission will be charged for the event and is set at $5.00 for adults, $4.00 for seniors, and $2.00 for students w/valid college ID. All children under the age of six are free as well.

If you are unable to attend tonight's match you will be able to follow the game via LIVE STATS and/or LIVE VIDEO.  Both are offered free of charge and available on a desktop/laptop computer as well as a mobile device.
 
How DSU Advanced:
The Bulldogs rolled past Manhattanville College in the semifinals on Wednesday, 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-21), to advance into the title match.  DSU hit .216 for the match and had three players record double-digit kills including freshman Morghan Shoemaker with 11.  Senior Lisa Wallitsch totaled 37 assists in the process broke her own record for most assists in a season with 1,254 on the year.  Five players led by junior Bernadette Wood with 16, tallied double-digit digs.
 
DeSales/Eastern History:
Today's match is the 37th career match between the two schools with the Eagles holding a 24-12 lead in the all-time series.  EU has won 18 straight in the series.  It is the ninth career meeting in the MAC Freedom postseason with Eastern winning each of the first eight.
 
Regular Season Meeting:
The Bulldogs opened up early leads and led late in sets one and three but were unable to hold on as Eastern won in straight sets, 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-20).  DSU hit just .040 and committed 26 hitting errors in the loss.  Shoemaker led the charge with eight kills and sophomores Natalie Gray and Gabby Savite` each had a team-high 17 digs.
 
MAC Freedom Postseason History:
The Bulldogs are making their 10th straight and 14th overall appearance in the MAC Freedom postseason.  DSU has advanced into the championship in each of the last six years and has won one MAC Freedom title in 2007.  DeSales has faced Eastern in each of the last eight years, seven of which have come in the championship match.  The Bulldogs are 10-12 all-time in the MAC Freedom postseason tournament and are 2-11 on the road.
