Center Valley, PA (February 13, 2016) – The DeSales University women's basketball team shot just 27.5 percent for the game falling to FDU-Florham, 66-48, in MAC Freedom action on Saturday afternoon in Billera Hall.
Senior
Jen Napolitano and junior
Morgan McCollian each had 13 points in the loss to lead DeSales (17-6, 10-2 MAC Freedom). McCollian added 13 rebounds to record her 11
th double-double of the season and Napolitano had five assists.
FDU (17-6, 9-3 MAC Freedom) was led by senior
Shalette Brown with 12 points and 23 rebounds.
Danielle Leguillou added 18 points,
Alyssa McDonough had 16 points and seven assists, and
Rachel Groom finished with 10 points in the win.
DSU struggled on offense from the very start unable to find the bottom of the net but its defense kept them in the game thru the early stages of the second quarter trailing by just two (13-11) after a three-point play from junior
Nikki Callahan. The Devils went on an 11-0 run after that play to take a 13-point lead (24-11) and pushed the advantage to 17 points at the half after the Bulldogs connected on just 2 of its final 12 shots in the half.
FDU scored the first seven points of the third quarter to take a (43-19) lead when DeSales came alive. The Bulldogs went on a 15-0 run over the next 5:22 to pull within nine points (43-34) with 2:22 left in the quarter and trailed by the same margin (45-36) entering the final quarter.
DeSales just couldn't get any closer in the fourth quarter as it continued to trail by nine points with 4:36 to go before Florham scored eight straight points to put the game out of reach.
The 48 points and 27.5 percent shooting are team lows this season for the Bulldogs. DSU attempted 21 more shots than the Devils but FDU hit 43.8 of their shot attempts.
McCollians earns
A.B.E. Doors and Windows Player of the Game honors recording her 11th double-double of the year in the win.
The Bulldogs are right back to action on Tuesday when they travel to Manhattanville College for another very important MAC Freedom game beginning at 6:00 pm.
