Women’s Hoops Falls to FDU-Florham in MAC Freedom Title Game

Center Valley, PA (February 27, 2016) – FDU-Florham used a 19-0 run to end the second quarter and begin the third quarter defeating the DeSales University women's basketball team 69-44 in the championship game of the MAC Freedom Tournament on Saturday afternoon in Billera Hall.
 
The Bulldogs (20-7) will now await a potential at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament which will be announced at 2:30 pm on Monday afternoon.
 
Junior Megan Baird was the lone Bulldog in double digits scoring 11 points off the bench, while senior Jen Napolitano added nine points and junior Morgan McCollian finished with eight points in the loss.  DSU shot just 30.6 percent from the field and hit just 5-for-26 from outside the arc.
 
The Devils (21-6 overall) were led by MAC Freedom Tournament Most Valuable Player, senior Shalette Brown, with 15 points and 21 rebounds.  Danielle Leguillou added 17 points, Rachel Groom finished with 14 points and seven rebounds, and Raven Dowling added 10 points in the win.
 
This game was tied at 21 at the 3:02 mark of the second quarter after four straight points from DeSales when the Devils scored the final seven points of the half, including a banked in three-pointer from Dowling just before the buzzer, as FDU took a 28-21 lead into the locker rooms.
 
The run continued into the second half as Florham scored the first 12 points to open up a 40-21 lead with 6:01 to go in the quarter and DeSales was unable to recover from there.
 
DSU attempted 19 more shots than FDU but the Devils hit 46.5 percent of its attempts and were 24-for-29 from the free throw line while the Bulldogs attempted just two foul shots on the afternoon as Florham sat in a packed 2-3 zone and forced DeSales into hitting shots from the outside.
 
Baird earns A.B.E. Doors and Windows Player of the Game honors as the lone double digit scorer for the Bulldogs on the afternoon.
