Women’s Hoops Rolls Past Misericordia, 77-45

Center Valley, PA (February 3, 2016) – Junior Morgan McCollian scored a season-high 27 points leading the DeSales University women's basketball team past Misericordia University, 77-45, in MAC Freedom action on Wednesday evening in Billera Hall.
 
McCollian shot 13-for-19 from the field and totaled her season-high in just 15 minutes of action.  Senior Jen Napolitano added 14 points, on four three-pointers, and freshman Katie Miller also posted a season-high with 12 points.  Junior Nicole Umbenhauer and sophomore Kaitlin Kelly each had a team-high five assists as the Bulldogs (15-5, 8-1 MAC Freedom) dished out a season-high 28 assists on 34 made baskets in the win.
 
Justine Seely and Leanne Forsyth led the Cougars (6-14, 2-7 MAC Freedom) with nine points each in the loss.  Seely also pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds.
 
The teams traded baskets over the first 5:08 of the game before back-to-back three-pointers from Miller and Napolitano gave DSU a six-point lead they never relinquished.  MU cut it to four points on the next possession but DeSales used a 20-4 run over the next 7:50 to take a 34-14 lead and led by 17 (43-26) at the halftime break.
 
Misericordia did start the third quarter strong cutting the margin down to 11 points once but the Bulldogs answered the spurt with a 13-1 run of their own to take a 59-36 lead and never looked in the fourth quarter.
 
The Bulldogs finished the game shooting 48.6 percent from the field and committed just 10 turnovers.  Defensively DSU forced 23 Cougars miscues and held MU to just 29.6 percent shooting for the game.
 
McCollian earns A.B.E. Doors and Windows Player of the Game honors with her season-high 27 points.
 
DeSales returns to action on Saturday when they host Delaware Valley University in a rematch of DSU's lone loss of the season in conference play with tip set for 1:00 pm.
