Baseball Falls to Spalding and Trinity in Friday Doubleheader

San Antonio, TX (March 11, 2016) – The DeSales University baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader on Friday falling to Spalding University, 3-0, in the first game and host Trinity University, 11-2, in the second game.

Game One (L/0-3 vs. Spalding)
Spalding (6-2) scored solo runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to earn the 3-0 win.  DSU had good scoring chances in the third, fourth, and fifth innings put runners on third with less than two out in all three innings but failed to get the run home each time as Spalding took advantage.

The Bulldogs (2-3) managed five hits in the loss.  Freshman Felix Martinez Jr. took the loss despite pitching very well in his collegiate debut going five innings allowing four hits and one run, striking out two.

Game Two (L/2-11 vs. Trinity)
DSU took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning as junior Tommy DePaul and junior Richie Lancashire each singled and came around to score on an RBI single from junior Mike Kacergis and a double steal with two outs later in the inning.

Trinity (14-3) had the answer scoring twice in the bottom of the first to tie the game and then added two runs in the second, three in the third, and four more in the fourth to provide the final tally.

Kacergis led DSU with two of its six hits in the loss.  Freshman Austin Kroeger suffered the loss in his first collegiate start allowing five earned runs over 2 2/3 innings pitched.

The Bulldogs wrap up their trip to San Antonio, TX tomorrow when they take on Baldwin Wallace University beginning at 1:00 pm.
