Baseball Sweeps Delaware Valley; Earns #2 Seed in Playoffs

Center Valley, PA (April 30, 2016) – The DeSales University baseball finished up the MAC Freedom regular season with a doubleheader sweep of Delaware Valley University by scores of 6-2 and 4-3 to earn the #2 seed in next weekend's MAC Freedom Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (25-13, 15-6 MAC Freedom) will be the #2 seed and face #3 seed Manhattanville College in the first game of the postseason double elimination tournament on Friday evening at 7:30 pm at Owls Field in Reading, PA.  Misericordia will be the top seed with King's College earning the #4 seed.

Game One (W/6-2)
The Bulldogs fell behind 2-0 thru two innings to the Aggies (15-20, 4-17 MAC Freedom) before getting one run in the third inning and four more in the fourth to take a 5-2 lead.  In the fourth junior Danny Licamara had a two-run double, junior Tyler Sweeney had a sacrifice fly, and freshman Tommy Epsaro had an RBI triple.

Licamara added an RBI single in the fifth to make it a 6-2 game and the Bulldogs never looked back from there.

Sophomore Adam Donovan earned the win, his third of the year, settling in to pitch six strong innings allowing just six hits and two runs, striking out seven.

Licamara finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Epsaro also had two hits.

Game Two (W/4-3)
DSU was cruising thru five innings taking a 3-0 lead on three runs in the fourth inning on an RBI triple from senior Alec Hardy, an RBI double from junior Mike Kacergis, and an RBI single from senior Jay Maletz.

Del. Val. got one run back in the sixth and scratched together two more runs in the top of the seventh all with two outs to tie the game at three.

Senior Colby Kulig led off the bottom of the seventh with a triple as the Aggies loaded the bases and brought in five infielders trying to cut down the winning run at home plate but Hardy laced a high fly ball to deep centerfield that dropped as the Kulig scampered home with the game-winning run.

Kulig, junior Tommy DePaul, Hardy, and Maletz each had two hits in the game two win.  Senior Evan Frasor earned the win in relief.  Senior Steven Wallace took a hard-luck no decision pitching terrific thru five innings allowing just four hits and striking out four.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to wrap-up their regular season on Monday when they travel to Muhlenberg College for a non-conference game beginning at 4:00 pm.
