Men’s Lacrosse Season Comes to End with 7-6 Loss in MAC Freedom Semi’s

Center Valley, PA (May 4, 2016) – The DeSales University men's lacrosse team saw its 2016 season come to an end falling to Misericordia University, 7-6, in the semifinals of the MAC Freedom Postseason Tournament on Wednesday evening.

The game was tied at five entering the fourth quarter when the Cougars (10-6 overall) took advantage of four DeSales (6-9 overall) penalties, taking a 6-5 lead on a man-up goal before the Bulldogs tied the game at six with 3:11 left to play on a goal from junior Tyler Newman.

Misericordia wasted no time reclaiming the lead scoring just five seconds later.  After DSU killed off a one-minute penalty with 2:43 to go, the Bulldogs regained possession with 44 seconds left and called timeout.

Out of the timeout the ball got loose before junior Justin Wilson finally gathered it at midfield.  He was able to fire a shot with less than five seconds left but it was saved by the Cougar goalkeeper as time expired on the clock.

DeSales shook off a 2-0 deficit scoring three straight goals to take a 3-2 halftime lead.  MU out-scored DSU 3-2 in the third quarter forcing the tie at five entering the final quarter of play.

Misericordia held a slim 29-27 edge in shots, while the Bulldogs dominated the ground balls, 34-21.  The Cougars dominated the face-offs winning 11-of-15 for the game.

Newman led DeSales with two goals, while freshman Tommy Friedman, sophomore Josh Harman, and senior Ryan Loughlin, each had one goal and one assist.  Sophomore Bryan Weber also tallied one goal in the loss.

Loughlin added eight ground balls and senior Matt Warnken played well in goal making 14 saves.
