Madison, NJ (September 14, 2016) - Sophomore
Gabby Savite` broke the three-set match record for kills tallying 25 in a 3-0 (25-11, 25-13, 30-28) win over FDU-Florham in the first MAC Freedom match of the season on Wednesday evening.
Savite` broke the old mark of 23 kills set by
Jen Mellon during the 2006 season. She finished with 25 kills and just one error for a .462 hitting percentage in the win.
DeSales (8-2, 1-0 MAC Freedom) rolled thru the first two sets winning 25-11 and 25-13 and led 19-15 in set three before the Devils (4-3, 0-1 MAC Freedom) tied the match at 22. DSU scored the next two points to take a 24-22 lead but FDU scored the next three points to take a 25-24 lead. DSU staved off set point and after a few back and forth rallies the Bulldogs closed it out with three straight points down 28-27 including two kills from Savite`.
Freshman
Jenna Sievert and
Morghan Shoemaker each had six kills in the win. Defensively sophomore
Natalie Gray had 24 digs, Savite` added 14 digs, and sophomore
Tanesia Rehrig totaled 12 digs. Senior
Lisa Wallitsch dished out 42 assists and nine digs in the win.
The Bulldogs are back in action next Tuesday when they travel to Delaware Valley University for another MAC Freedom match set to begin at 7:00 pm.
