Center Valley, PA (January 25, 2017) - Senior
Morgan McCollian recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 20 points and 12 rebounds leading the DeSales University women's basketball team past King's College, 77-47, in MAC Freedom action on Wednesday evening in Billera Hall.
McCollian finished 7-of-14 from the field and added two assists in the win. Sophomore
Leandra Sterner added 12 points, all in the first-half, and senior
Megan Baird came off the bench to score nine points. Senior
Morgan Birmelin had a game-high seven assists, while senior
Nicole Umbenhauer and sophomore
Bridget Walsh helped DSU dominate the glass with eight and 10 rebounds, a career-high for Walsh.
King's (3-14, 1-6 MAC Freedom) got 15 points from
Kayla Feairheller and nine each from
Erin Schmidt and
Rebecca Prociak.
The Bulldogs (14-4, 6-1 MAC Freedom) never trailed in this one, scoring the first 17 points of the game, before King's caught fire hitting five straight 3's to pull within 22-15. Leading by nine after one quarter DeSales dominated the second quarter out-scoring the Monarchs, 20-4, to take a 44-19 lead into the halftime locker room.
DSU never looked back in the second-half leading by as many as 31 points before the final tally was posted.
DeSales shot 39.7 percent from the field and held King's to just 23.7 percent from the field. The Bulldogs dominated the paint out-rebounding King's, 59-34, and out-scoring the Monarchs, 36-10 in the lane.
McCollian earns
A.B.E. Doors and Windows Player of the Game honors recording her fourth double-double of the season.
The Bulldogs finish the first-half of the MAC Freedom schedule alone in second place behind undefeated FDU-Florham. They return to action on Saturday when they travel to Eastern University for another MAC Freedom game set to begin at 1:00 pm.
