Field Hockey Comeback Falls just Short in 3-2 Loss to Misericordia

Center Valley, PA (October 21, 2017) - The DeSales University field hockey team dominated play in the second half but saw a furious comeback come up just short falling to Misericordia University, 3-2, in MAC Freedom action on Saturday afternoon.

The loss moves the Bulldogs to 9-7 overall and 3-3 in the MAC Freedom setting up a winner take all final game next week vs. King's College who is tied with the Bulldogs for the fourth and final MAC Freedom postseason tournament spot.  The winner of the game will get the final spot in the postseason tournament.  Game time is set for 6:00 pm on Thursday and will be at DeSales.

The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead on Saturday when sophomore Kylie Honnick-Payne (Johnson City, NY) took control of a loose ball in the circle and pushed her 12th goal of the season past the Cougar goalkeeper.

The lead remained into the 24th minute when MU tied it up when Kailey Vogl scored off an assist from Colby Eldridge.  MU needed just 3:59 to take its first lead when Eldridge scored off a corner on a shot just inside the circle after a pass from Melanie Fry and Miseri took a 3-1 halftime lead at 33:10 when Haley Gruber saw her centering pass get re-directed into the cage by a Bulldog defender.

DSU came out firing in the second-half controlling possession for most of the second-half and cut the deficit in half when Honnick-Payne scored her second of the game off an assist from sophomore Madison Brader (Coopersburg, PA) at 49:22.  

DeSales had several more chances to tie the game but came up short despite holding a 9-2 shot advantage and a 10-1 penalty corner lead in the second-half.  The Bulldogs finished the game out-shooting Misericordia, 14-6, and holding a 12-6 lead in corners.

Sophomore Katarina Polyviou (Cranford, NJ) made one save in the loss.
