Women's Soccer Falls to Misericordia, 2-0, in MAC Freedom Semifinals

Dallas, PA (October 31, 2017) - The DeSales University women's soccer team saw its 2017 season come to an end on Tuesday evening falling to Misericordia University, 2-0, in the semifinals of the MAC Freedom tournament.

The Bulldogs (11-7) fall in the semifinals for the first time in four years after winning three straight MAC Freedom semifinal games.

DSU had its best scoring chance less than two minutes into the game when freshman Rachel Medlar (Coplay, PA) hit a shot from about 30 yards out just under the crossbar but the Cougar (13-4-2) goalkeeper tipped the ball over the crossbar for a corner kick.

Misericordia got on the board in the 31st minute when McKenzie Ruffing scored just inside the left post on a shot about 30 yards out after a pass back from the top of the box from Jackie Stevens.

DeSales pushed its offensive attack mid-way thru the second-half and out-shot the Cougars, 8-2, in the second-half but were never able to find the back of the net.

MU got its insurance goal with 1:48 left in the game when Alex Gallagher broke free on the backside after a pass from Ashley Edgell and scored inside the right post.

Freshman Lia Gaccione (Sparta, NJ) made six stops in between the pipes for the Bulldogs.

Misericordia finished the game with a 12-11 advantage in shots and a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
