Volleyball Advances to MAC Freedom Championship with 3-1 Win over King's

Center Valley, PA (November 1, 2017) - Four players recorded double digit kills leading the DeSales University volleyball team past King's College, 3-1 (25-21, 24-26, 25-15, 25-16), in the MAC Freedom postseason tournament semifinals on Wednesday evening in Billera Hall.

DeSales trailed early in the first set was down by three (11-8) when it took control rolling off three points to tie the score at 11 and then had five straight down one at 13-12 to take a 17-13 lead and never looked back.  The second set was very similar with King's leading early before a seven-point run gave DSU a 12-8 lead.  The Bulldogs led 15-12 when the Monarchs scored eight straight points to take a 20-15 lead.  DSU rallied down 23-18 to tie the score at 24 but KC scored the next two points to salvage the second set win.

DSU then owned the final two sets hitting .213 in the third set to win 25-15 and a very impressive .654 in the fourth set to win 25-16.

Freshman Noel Kelly (Saylorsburg, PA) led the attack with 19 kills and a .341 hitting percentage.  Junior Gabby Savite` (Hackettstown, NJ) had another double-double with 15 kills and 22 digs, adding four aces.  Junior Taylor Antoniewicz (Cranford, NJ) was terrific with 11 kills and a .556 hitting percenage, while sophomore Morghan Shoemaker (Allentown, PA) finished with 11 kills and three blocks.  Freshman Grace Merritt (Newark, DE) also played well on the right-side with nine kills.

Freshman Julia Bradford (Mertztown, PA) broke the four-set single-match record with 60 assists and added 10 digs and junior Natalie Gray (Aston, PA) was outstanding in the back row with a match-high 27 digs.

The Bulldogs advance to the MAC Freedom championship match for the seventh straight year and will host the game for the first time since the 2007 season, the last year DSU won the title.  Match time is set for 2:00 pm in Billera Hall hosting the #2 seed, Eastern University.
