Slow Start Spoils Men's Hoops Win Streak in 94-76 Loss to Drew in Al Senavitis Memorial Championship

Center Valley, PA (December 30, 2017) - Drew University used a 16-0 run early in the first-half leading to a 94-76 win over the DeSales University men's basketball team in the championship game of the Al Senavitis Memorial Tournament on Saturday afternoon in Billera Hall.

After a three from senior Connor Jones (Hawley, PA) made it a 10-6 game at the 15:46 mark, the Rangers (8-4) scored 16 straight points to take a 26-6 lead and the lead never went below double digits the rest of the way.  DSU (9-2) did pull within 13 points later in the first-half but DU pushed the advantage back up to 20 and led by 18 (46-28) at the halftime break.

The Bulldogs made a few short runs in the second-half getting within 14 early in the final half and trailed by just 11 points (75-64) with 7:22 to go but were never able to get over the hump in the loss.

Drew is the first team to score more than 70 points on the Bulldogs this season, shooting 55.2 percent from the field and hit 10-for-21 from outside the arc.  DeSales shot 47.6 percent but was hurt by 19 turnovers that led to 21 Ranger points.

Junior Luke Connaghan (Warrington, PA) was the lone Bulldog named to the All-Tournament team totaling 16 points on Saturday to go along with seven rebounds.  Sophomore Tracy Simsick (Harleysville, PA) hot for a career-high 23 points in the loss and sophomore Kweku Dawson-Amoah (Stewartsville, NJ) had 11 points and six boards.

Drew saw all five starters reach double digits as sophomore Riley Collins earned Tournament MVP honors with 21 points.  Yonathan Napoleon (16 points, 8 assists) and Nate Aldrich (20 points, 12 rebounds) also earned All-Tournament team honors, while Dan Roibal (10 points, 9 rebounds) and Darius Reiter (11 points) also reached double figures.

The Bulldogs finish up their non-conference schedule and will return to action on Wednesday, January 3rd when they travel to Eastern University for the first MAC Freedom game of the season with start time set for 6:00 pm (Note new start time).
