Poor Shooting Dooms Women's Hoops in 62-52 Loss at Stevens

Hoboken, NJ (December 6, 2017) - The DeSales University shot just 24.1 percent over the final three quarters falling to Stevens Institute of Technology, 62-52, in non-conference action on Wednesday evening.

The Bulldogs (5-3) got a game-high 17 points from junior Leandra Sterner (Northampton, PA) as the lone double digit scorer shooting 8-for-14 from the field to lead the way.

Stevens (3-4) saw three players reach double figures including Anna Toke with a double-double (14 pts., 13 reb.), Sam Winter with 15 points and nine boards, and Maddi Hahn with 13 points.

DeSales played a terrific first quarter shooting 11-of-23 (.478) from the field racing to a 25-14 advantage but then went cold hitting just 2-for-19 in the second quarter and scoring only five points but still clung to a three-point halftime advantage (30-27).

The Bulldogs continued to lead by one after three quarters of play (44-43) but struggled offensively once again in the fourth quarter, scoring just eight points as the Ducks scored five straight points late in the period to extend a two-point lead into a seven-point advantage (57-50) with 2:27 to go and DSU was unable to recover.

Stevens hit 39.3 percent from the field for the game as compared to just 31.2 percent shooting for DeSales.

The Bulldogs did win the battle on the glass, out-rebounding Stevens, 45-42, led by junior Bridget Walsh (Dunmore, PA) pulling down a career-high 14 boards.

Stevens Tech also had a large advantage at the foul line hitting 15-for-19, while the Bulldogs attempted just two free throws and none after the first quarter.

The Bulldogs are now off for finals next week and will return to action on Tuesday, December 19th when they host local rival Muhlenberg College in Billera Hall beginning at 7:00 pm.
