Doylestown, PA (February 23, 2017) – Four players reached double digits leading the DeSales University men's basketball team past Delaware Valley University, 79-57, in the semifinals of the MAC Freedom Postseason Tournament on Thursday evening in James Work Gymnasium.
The Bulldogs (18-8) advance into the MAC Freedom Championship game traveling to Misericordia University on Saturday with tip set for 3:00 pm. The winner will earn an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. It will be DSU's 10
th appearance in the MAC Freedom title game.
Senior
Brandon Bridy led the balanced scoring attack with 15 points, shooting a perfect 5-for-5 from the field and grabbed eight rebounds. Fellow senior
Ryan Callahan added 14 points and eight rebounds and freshman
Kweku Dawson-Amoah added a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Senior
Joe Lococo led a strong bench attack with 12 points
The Aggies (16-10) got a double-double (19 points and 16 rebounds) from senior
Tyrea Williams and 12 points from
Andre Butler in the loss.
The Bulldogs started quickly scoring the first six points of the game before Del. Val. answered with seven straight to take its first of just two leads with the other coming after trading baskets at 9-8.
DSU then used a methodical 11-2 run over the next 7+ minutes to take a 19-11 advantage and held a 29-19 lead as both teams headed into the locker room.
The Aggies were 0-for-12 from three-point land in the first-half and DSU dominated the glass out-rebounding DVU 26-13, including 11 offensive rebounds, leading to 13 second chance points.
It was an 11-point game after two Williams free throws early in the second-half when the Bulldogs all but put the game away with an 11-0 run to take a 45-23 lead on back-to-back 3's from junior
Conner Jones at the 13:40 mark.
Delaware Valley never got any closer than 16 points the rest of the way as the lead grew to as many as 26 points before the final margin was posted.
DSU's zone defense stifled the Aggies into a 3-for-26 shooting performance from outside the arc as DVU shot just 36.1 percent from the field. DeSales also owned the glass out-rebounding Delaware Valley, 45-32, and held a 46-32 edge on points in the paint.
