Big Sixth Inning and Donovan Lead Baseball past King's, 6-2

Wilkes-Barre, PA (May 10, 2017) - Junior Adam Donovan pitched seven strong innings and the DeSales University baseball scored all six of its runs in the sixth inning winning the rubber game of the weekend three-game set to take the season series from King's College with a 6-2 win on Monday afternoon.

King's (11-10, 5-4 MAC Freedom) took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on three hits and a walk but Donovan dominated from that point forward.  After getting the third out of the first inning, he retired 17 straight including the side in order from the second thru sixth innings.  He worked around a one-out walk and hit batter in the seventh, inducing a double play to finish the afternoon with seven strong allowing just three hits and two walks, striking out five to earn his second win of the season.

The Bulldogs (11-11, 7-2 MAC Freedom) got all the runs they needed in the sixth inning.  DSU had a base runner in each of the first four innings leaving the bases loaded in both the second and third but finally broke thru in the sixth.

Two walks and a Monarch error started the frame loading the bases with no one out and sophomore Preston Amato at the plate.  Amato laced a bases clearing double to left field and would score on a wild pitch during the next at-bat.  Junior Hunter Hart walked and sophomore Nick White capped off the inning with a two-run home run giving DeSales a 6-2 lead it would not relinquish.

Senior Tyler Cooperman pitched the final two innings to secure the win.  White finished with two of DSU's five hits.

Donovan earns TW Cooper Insurance Player of the Game honors.

The Bulldogs are back in action tomorrow when they host Rutgers-Camden in a non-conference game scheduled for 3:30 pm.
