Center Valley, PA (April 23, 2017) - The DeSales University baseball split its doubleheader with Manhattanville College on Sunday afternoon, taking two of three in the weekend series, winning game one on a passed ball with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning at Butz Field.
The win leaves head coach
Tim Neiman just one win shy of #700 for his career as the Bulldogs improve to 17-14 overall and 11-4 in the MAC Freedom, while the Valiants go to 14-17 overall and 7-8 in the MAC Freedom.
Game One (W/6-5)
DSU took a 4-1 lead early with four runs in the bottom of the first inning on four walks and RBI singles from sophomore
Tommy Epsaro and junior
Conner Lafferty.
It remained a three-run lead into the fifth inning when the Valiants got three back to tie the score at four and took a 5-4 lead in the top of the seventh inning on a two-out bloop single from
Chris Conklin.
The Bulldogs, however, rallied in the bottom of the inning as sophomore
Preston Amato walked with the bases loaded forcing home the tying run and senior
Tommy DePaul scampered home standing up on a passed ball during the next at-bat with the game-winner.
Senior
Tyler Cooperman earned the win pitching 2/3 innings of relief, striking out one.  Junior
Hunter Hart and Epsaro each had two hits in the win.
Game Two (L/2-3)
DSU scored once in both the first and second innings to take a 2-0 lead on an RBI single from senior
Mike Kacergis and an RBI groundout from DePaul but the bats went silent from there.
Freshman
Ryan Passaro cruised thru the first four innings but ran into trouble in the fifth allowing three runs as MVC took a 3-2 lead and the Bulldogs had just one base runner over the final three innings.
Six different players had hits in the game two loss.  Passaro took the loss allowing three runs on six hits over five innings.
Epsaro earns
TW Cooper Insurance Player of the Day honors with three hits on the day.
The Bulldogs are back in action tomorrow afternoon when they host Ursinus College in a non-conference game beginning at 4:00 pm.
