Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | BJ Spigelmyer - DeSales SID

Bertola nets two more in 4-1 rain soaked win over Albright.

Center Valley, PA (September 6, 2017) - Senior Angelica Bertola (East Stroudsburg, PA) was a post away from recorded her third straight hat trick, settling for two goals and an assist, leading the DeSales University women's soccer team past Albright College, 4-1, on a rain soaked Wednesday afternoon.

DSU (3-0) is now one win shy of equaling the best start to a season in school history when the Bulldogs went 4-0 to start the 2010 season.  Bertola now has eight goals and an assist in DSU's first three games.  She needs two goals to become the third player in team history with 40+ goals in a career and nine points to become the third player with 100+ career points.

The scoring started in the 36th minute when freshman Bridgett Finn (Lebanon, PA) headed home a corner kick feed from fellow freshman Bernadette Haponski (Harbor City, CA).  That one goal lead stood into the half.

Bertola made it a 2-0 game just 3:43 into the second half taking a beautiful over the top pass from senior Rachel Logue (Burlington, NJ), beating a charging Lion goalkeeper to the ball and firing a shot past a defender into the net.

She created the next scoring chance out-racing an Albright (1-2) defender down the right sideline and firing a centering pass to freshman Gabby Rojas (Reading, PA) who beat a Lion defender to the ball and one-timed a shot into the net at 52:56.

Albright got on the board in the 64th minute when a corner feed sailed over everyone's head to the back post where two Bulldogs tried to clear the ball but a furious scrum on the goal line ended with Crissy Terraces knocking the loose ball into the net cutting the margin to 3-1.

Bertola got the goal back in the 81st minute when a clear by a Lion defender went right to her just inside the top of the box and she fired a shot into the back of the net.  She was inches away from a hat trick with about a minute to go after a long pass freed her on the right side but her shot caromed off the post and back into play as time eventually expired on the win.

The Bulldogs had a 14-6 advantage in shots and a 7-4 edge in corner kicks.  Junior Haley Jacobs (Bloomsbury, NJ) made two saves in net for DeSales.

DSU is back in action on Saturday when they travel to Utica College for a non-conference game beginning at 7:00 pm.
