Atlanta, GA (September 8, 2017) - Juniors
Gabby Savite` (Hackettstown, NJ) and
Natalie Gray (Aston, PA) each posted 40+ digs leading the DeSales University volleyball team to a 3-2 win over Covenant College highlighting a 2-0 record on day one of the Emory University Classic on Friday evening.
Match #1 (W/3-0 vs. Howard Payne)
DSU hit .324 as a team and posted 44 kills and just 10 errors in a dominating 3-0 win over Howard Payne to open play at the Emory University Classic. DSU won in straight sets by scores of 25-18, 25-13, and 25-13.
Savite` led the charge with 14 kills and 13 digs, hitting .344. Sophomore
Morghan Shoemaker (Allentown, PA) added six kills and four blocks and freshman
Noel Kelly (Saylorsburg, PA) finished with six kills and hit .333. Junior
Taylor Antoniewicz (Cranford, NJ) also had four blocks, Gray posted 17 digs, sophomore
Taylor Aron (Sinking Spring, PA) added 11 digs and freshman
Julia Bradford (Mertztown, PA) posted 34 assists in the win.
Match #2 (W/3-2 vs. Covenant)
The Bulldogs struggled early in this one collecting 20 kills and committing 17 errors over the first two sets dropping both by scores of 25-20. DSU regained its confidence in the third set extending the match with a 25-18 win before pounding 27 kills over the final two sets to win 25-19 and 15-8 to take the match in dramatic fashion.
Savite` and Gray were both outstanding in the back row as Gray finished with 45 digs and Savite` added 42 digs. Savite` also had 16 kills. Shoemaker was equally outstanding in the win hitting .372 with 18 kills and just two errors. Kelly added 15 kills, Aron had 12 digs, and Bradford handed out 51 assists.
DSU is back in action tomorrow when they take on Millsaps and tournament host Emory.
