Women's Hoops Reaches Century Mark in Win over Wilkes

Wilkes-Barre, PA (January 17, 2018) - The DeSales University women's basketball team rolled past Wilkes University, scoring 100+ points for the first time since January, 2010, in a 101-36 win in MAC Freedom action on Wednesday evening in the Marts Center.

The Bulldogs (9-7, 4-1 MAC Freedom) last scored 100 points also in a win over Wilkes on January 20th, 2010.  The win is also DSU's 41st straight in 44 career meetings with the Colonels.

DeSales had complete control of this game from the very start scoring the first 10 points of the game and holding a 32-5 lead after the first quarter.  The lead swelled to 59-21 at the half and peaked at the 67-point final tally.

Senior Kaitlin Kelly (Newtown, PA) and junior Leandra Sterner (Northampton, PA) each had a game-high 23 points in the win.  Kelly hit seven three-pointers, tying the mark for second most in a game and Sterner was a near perfect 8-for-9 from the field.  Sophomore Molly Jansco (Newfoundland, PA) had a career-high 17 points and freshman Isabel Caruso (Gibbsboro, NJ) tallied a season-high 10 points off the bench.  Junior Morgan Birmelin (Honesdale, PA) finished with eight tallies and five assists and junior Bridget Walsh (Dunmore, PA) pulled down a game-high eight rebounds.

The Bulldogs shot a season-best 57.4 percent from the field and hit 10-for-14 (71.4%) from outside the arc.

DSU forced 29 Wilkes (4-11, 0-5 MAC Freedom) turnovers leading to 41 points and DeSales dominated the paint out-scoring Wilkes, 42-8.

DeSales is back in action on Saturday when they host Misericordia University in a MAC Freedom game set to begin at 2:00 pm.
