Center Valley, PA (October 31, 2018) - The DeSales University women's soccer, field hockey, and volleyball teams each begin its quest for a MAC Freedom Championship as the Fall MAC Freedom Postseason Tournaments open tonight with the semifinal round.
Below is a brief preview of each of the semifinals matchups taking place on Wednesday evening:
Field Hockey (#2 seed hosting Wilkes University, 5:00 PM - Turf Fields - Live Stats - Live Video)
The Bulldogs finished the regular season in second place with a 6-1 record in the MAC Freedom to earn its first-ever home playoff game in team history. It is DSU's second straight appearance and fifth overall in the MAC Freedom postseason after knocking off top seed FDU-Florham in the semifinals last season before falling to Misericordia University in the championship game. Tonight's game will be rematch of the regular season contest played just 11 days ago and won by the Bulldogs, 3-1. The Colonels had a 1-0 lead mid-way thru the first-half before DSU scored three unanswered goals to earn the win. It is the second time these two teams have met in the conference postseason with the only other meeting coming during the 2013 season, a 6-2 win by the Colonels.
Volleyball (#1 seed hosting FDU-Florham, 7:00 pm - Billera Hall - Live Stats - Live Video)
DeSales finished off its second straight perfect regular season in the MAC Freedom to earn the top seed for the second straight year. It is DSU's 16th appearance in the MAC Freedom postseason and the 12th straight year the Bulldogs have qualified for the conference playoffs. The Bulldogs have finished as the runners-up in the MAC Freedom postseason tournament each of the last seven years, falling to Eastern all seven times. DeSales will host FDU-Florham tonight having defeated the Devils, 3-0 (25-10, 25-21, 25-22) nearly a month ago on October 2nd. It will be the sixth career meeting in the postseason tournament between the two teams, and the first since a matchup in the 2015 semifinals, with DeSales winning each of the first five.
Women's Soccer (#3 seed traveling to Wilkes University, 7:00 pm - Live Stats - Live Video)
The Bulldogs finished the regular season tied for second place with Wilkes University but lost the head-to-head tiebreaker to earn the #3 seed in the MAC Freedom postseason tournament. DSU will be making its ninth apperance in the MAC Freedom postseason tournament and its fifth straight. The Bulldogs dropped a 2-0 decision to Misericordia University in last year's semifinal round. Wednesday's semifinal match-up is a rematch of a 2-1 loss back on October 6th also at Wilkes. The Colonels scored in the 78th minute to break a tie at one to earn the win. It will be the fourth career match-up in the MAC Freedom postseason with DSU owning a 2-1 record in the first three meetings.
