Birmelin Nets Career-High 29 as Women's Hoops Clinches #2 Seed with 75-45 Win at Delaware Valley

Doylestown, PA (February 17, 2018) - Junior Morgan Birmelin (Honesdale, PA) scored a career-high 29 points leading the DeSales University women's basketball team past Delaware Valley University, 75-45, in the MAC Freedom regular season finale clinching the #2 seed in the MAC Freedom postseason tournament next week.

The Bulldogs (15-10, 10-4 MAC Freedom), winners of four straight, finish the regular season tied for second with King's College but own the tiebreaker over the Monarchs and will host King's as the #2 seed on Wednesday beginning at 7:00 pm.  FDU-Florham will be the top seed and will host the #4 seed, Misericordia University, in the other Wednesday semifinal.

Birmelin shot 12-for-18 from the field and added five rebounds, five assists, four steals, and two blocks in the win.  Junior Bridget Walsh (Dunmore, PA) recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 boards, and junior Leandra Sterner (Northampton, PA) had 10 points and handed out a game-high seven assists.

Danielle Skedzielewski finished with a team-high 22 points as the lone double digit scorer for the Aggies (7-18, 4-10 MAC Freedom).

DeSales led in this one for all but the first 17 seconds opening up the game scoring the first 13 points and led 15-3 after one quarter.  The lead grew to as many as 15 points in the second quarter before DVU pulled to within eight at the half.

The Aggies got within five points early in the third quarter before the Bulldogs scored seven straight points to go up 12 and after leading by nine after three quarters of play, DeSales dominated the fourth out-scoring Delaware Valley, 30-9, in the quarter to record the 30-point win.

DSU shot 48.7 percent in the second-half and 43.7 percent for the game, while holding the Aggies to just 22.2 percent shooting.  DSU had 22 assists and just 14 turnovers and out-rebounded DVU, 49-46.  DeSales also out-scored Del.Val. 46-14, in the paint and had a 23-6 edge in points off turnovers.
