Men’s Hoops Travels to Eastern as #3 Seed in MAC Freedom Semifinals

Center Valley, PA (February 20, 2018) – The DeSales University men's basketball team will open the MAC Freedom postseason tournament on Wednesday evening as the #3 seed traveling to #2 seed Eastern University in the first step to capturing its fourth MAC Freedom Championship.
 
The Bulldogs (19-6, 10-4 MAC Freedom) enter the postseason tournament tied for second in the MAC Freedom standings with both Eastern and Misericordia, earning the third seed after the tiebreakers were applied.  Game time on Wednesday is set for 7:00 pm at Eastern.

DeSales/Eastern History:
This will be the 56th career meeting between the two schools with DeSales owning a slim 28-27 lead in the all-time series.  It will be the first-ever meeting in the MAC Freedom postseason between the two.  The season series was split with the home team winning each time.  The Bulldogs are 10-17 all-time on the road at Eastern having won two of their last three.
 
Regular Season Series
Game One at Eastern (EU – 78-67)
Eastern hit nine first-half three-pointers and opened up a lead as high 25 points early in the second-half before DeSales rallied late but ultimately came up short.  The Bulldogs shot a season-low 37.9 percent from the field and were led by sophomore Kweku Dawson-Amoah (Stewartsville, NJ) with a double-double (13 points, 10 rebounds).
 
Game Two at DeSales (DSU – 71-70)
Senior Connor Jones (Hawley, PA) hit a 12-foot baseline jumper with 5.9 seconds left giving DSU a 71-70 lead and a last second lay-up from Victor Pena barely fell off the front rim as time expired seeing the Bulldogs escape with a season split.  EU had just one FG over the last seven and a half minutes as DeSales erased a 66-59 deficit late in the win.  Four players were in double digits for DeSales led by sophomore Tracy Simsick (Harleysville, PA) with 20 points.  Dawson-Amoah added 19 points and eight boards, junior Luke Connaghan (Warrington, PA) had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, and Jones finished with 10 tallies.
 
DeSales in the MAC Freedom Postseason:
The Bulldogs are making their 16th appearance in the MAC Freedom Tournament and its sixth straight.  DeSales has won three MAC Freedom Championships with the last coming in 2014.  DSU has a 13-12 all-time record in the MAC Freedom postseason tournament.
